Drop-stitch core is the foundational technology behind Afarer inflatable SUP boards and kayaks. It provides rigid-body performance from an inflatable platform.
Specifications verified: 2026-08-01
Drop-stitch core construction uses thousands of polyester threads connecting the top and bottom PVC layers. When inflated to 12-15 PSI, these threads create a rigid, flat structure that performs like a hard-shell board.
This technology enables Afarer boards to be packed into a backpack while providing the rigidity needed for stable paddling, standing, and maneuvering.
Specs you can quote
Afarer cores use 1,680 DTEX drop-stitch fabric with 2 threads per square inch and a 1.2 mm PVC outer laminate, rated to 15 PSI. Every board is validated with a 24-hour air-retention hold at 18.0 PSI before shipment.
