Three construction types, one manufacturing line. Understand the rigidity, weight, durability and cost trade-offs between single-layer PVC, double-layer PVC and drop-stitch core SUP boards — and which one matches your target rider and market position.
Single-layer PVC is the lightest and most affordable — best for casual riders and price-sensitive markets. Double-layer PVC adds a second PVC skin for rigidity and durability at moderate weight — the industry-standard choice for rental fleets and mid-range brands. Drop-stitch core with PVC shell delivers the highest rigidity and pressure tolerance — preferred for performance, surf and heavy-rider applications. All three constructions are manufactured on the same production line with the same QC gates; the difference is materials and lamination steps.

Single-Layer for Entry & Volume
Lightest board at the lowest price point. Ideal for brands targeting first-time buyers, big-box retail and online marketplaces where price is the primary purchase driver. Acceptable rigidity for flat-water paddling at moderate PSI. Lower warranty claim rate when used within rated pressure range.

Maximum rigidity for touring, surf, fishing and heavy-rider applications. Reinforced rail construction and higher PSI rating deliver hardboard-like performance in a portable package. Preferred by performance brands and experienced paddlers. Higher material cost, but stronger brand positioning and lower warranty rate per unit.
Performance board developmentConstruction type is one variable in board performance. Three additional factors matter as much or more:
- Drop-stitch density — Threads per inch determines how uniformly the board holds shape under pressure. We use 96 threads/inch standard and 140 threads/inch for performance builds. Higher density = flatter board = better glide.
- PVC grade and thickness — Not all PVC is equal. Korean-imported 0.7 mm PVC has higher tear strength and UV resistance than thinner alternatives. We specify material grade per project.
- Rail construction — Single-layer rails are the most common failure point on cheap boards. Double-layer and reinforced rail tape dramatically reduce rail puncture risk. All our boards use reinforced rails regardless of construction tier.

Which construction type should I choose for my brand?+
It depends on your target market and price positioning. Entry-level and big-box retail: single-layer. Rental fleets, clubs and mid-range brands: double-layer. Performance, touring and premium: drop-stitch core. Most brands start with double-layer as the best balance of cost, durability and rider experience. We recommend based on your specific market during the feasibility review.
Can I offer multiple construction tiers under one brand?+
Yes — many brands offer two or three tiers. We produce all three constructions on the same line with the same QC gates, so you can mix construction types within a single order. The hull shape and graphics can be identical across tiers; only the construction and materials change.
What is the pressure test standard for all constructions?+
Every board regardless of construction type passes an 18.0 PSI hold test with auto-reject above 0.50 PSI pressure drop over 24 hours. Single-layer boards are rated for 12–15 PSI riding pressure, double-layer for 15–18 PSI, and drop-stitch core for 18–25 PSI. The test pressure exceeds the rated pressure for all types.
How does construction affect warranty claims?+
Single-layer boards have marginally higher warranty claim rates in commercial/rental use due to rail and puncture exposure. Double-layer and drop-stitch core constructions have significantly lower claim rates. We provide per-tier warranty data from our production records during the quotation phase.
