1. Board Geometry and Weight Target
- Length, width and thickness — fixed in millimeters, not "long and wide."
- Capacity/volume in liters — or, more practically, the rider weight range (60–80 kg, 80–100 kg) the board must carry.
- Deck pad area — full-length, mid-length or twin-pad configuration.
If you already sell a board, the best reference is the physical board itself or its full specification sheet — shapes are hard to convey in words.
2. Construction Targets
- Drop-stitch thickness — typically 80–110 mm; thicker cores are stiffer but heavier.
- PVC material thickness and grade — standard commercial PVC vs. military-grade fabric; this is the single biggest cost driver after volume.
- Pressure rating — the PSI the board must hold (commercial fleets usually need higher ratings than home use).
- Rigidity expectations — arena-race stiffness vs. leisure flexibility.
3. Materials and Accessories
- Valve type and placement, deck pad material and thickness, fin system (thruster, center fin, tool-free), carry handles, and leash attachments.
- Accessories package: paddle (fixed or adjustable), coil leash, bag type (roller bag, carry bag), pump (manual, double-action or electric).
4. Print-Ready Artwork Files
The most common cause of sampling delays. Provide:
- Vector or high-resolution files (AI, PDF, EPS — 300 dpi minimum for raster).
- Color references — Pantone numbers or a printed color proof; screen colors do not survive PVC printing without a reference.
- Positioning marks — a top/deck layout drawing showing where logos and graphics sit relative to the valve, handles and fin box.
5. Packaging and Labels
- Bag style and branding, carton size and carton marking requirements.
- Product labels, hang tags and barcode requirements (EAN/UPC).
- Any country-specific labeling (CE mark placement, safety warnings, care instructions language).
6. Volume and MOQ
- Target order size per design, and expected repeat frequency — volume drives unit cost, and your MOQ determines whether you can access a standard platform or need custom tooling.
- Trial quantities (small pilot runs) are usually 5–10 pcs on standard models before committing to a production run.
7. Target-Market Compliance
Tell the factory where the boards will be sold so documents can be prepared early: CE (EU), REACH and RoHS chemical compliance, CPSIA or California Prop 65 considerations for the US, and the correct product description for customs classification (inflatable paddle board, PVC drop-stitch construction). Certification documentation is issued with every shipment — but the right paper trail starts with knowing the destination market.
8. Budget and Timeline Expectations
Your budget and target launch date change real engineering decisions: a faster launch pushes you toward an existing platform and standard materials; a tighter budget may move you from military-grade PVC to standard commercial grade. Share both — a factory that knows your constraints will propose the shortest route that fits them.
What Happens After You Send This
The factory returns an engineering review and a quotation within one business day, flags anything that needs clarification, and schedules sampling. From there, expect the first sample in 7–12 days and production in 25–35 days after PO and deposit. Incomplete specifications are the number one reason projects slow down — the clock starts once the detail is on the table.

Do I need to pay anything for the engineering review and quotation? No — the review and quotation are provided before you commit. The first money in the project is the deposit against the sample or trial run.
